Junior Year

About 11th Grade

Another year has passed by, and before you know it, your child has become a Junior in high school. At this time, they are only a couple of years from graduation and the rest of their future. During Junior year, they should take more advanced classes such as AP classes and dual credit classes in their local community colleges. During the Fall, they should be preparing to take their SATs in the spring. A good way to do this is to take the PSAT. If they score high enough, they may even qualify for the National Merit. Don’t forget to also pursue your kids passions in other things including the arts and sports. Sports scholarships can help pave the way to your child’s future. No matter what path your child may take, remember Senior year will also be busy.  It is a good idea to start drafting college application pieces such as college essays and securing those letters of recommendation from teachers early on.

For those that want to take an alternate route and advance in their career, it is good to start research on requirements for trade school. This is also a suited time to begin job shadowing. Shadowing allows you to see first hand the career you have chosen and to see if it’s a good fit for you. Mentorship is also another great way to get references for future job applications.

Finally, don’t forget to have fun. Being a part of their Prom and Homecoming are wonderful experiences that will make great memories for your children.
