7th Grade Math

Math Main Topics: Real world situations, Advance Operations, Algebra, Geometry

At school, 7th graders may begin to look at proportional relationships and apply all they’ve learned about different operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to these problems. Their operations skills are getting better, and they will begin to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers such as fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages. They’ll learn about equivalent expressions, numerical and algebra expressions. They can take linear equations such as (y=3x+5) and represent it using descriptions, tables, and graphs. For their geometry skills, they will be solving problems of volumes, circumferences, and areas. These middle school classes are laying down foundations for the skills that they will need to complete during high school.

Math Goals:

  • Solve Real-World problems

  • Solve Operations with fractions and decimals

  • Simplify equivalent expressions

  • Grasp the idea behind numerical and algebraic expressions and equations

  • Perform math involving Geometric Figures

Reading

7th Grade Reading

Reading Main Topics: Themes, Form, Connecting different passages

Middle school students in 7th grade can summarize their readings, including the main theme and the central idea of the story. They’ll discover different types of story mediums, including poems and their components. They will analyze how parts of a story interact. For example, they can look at how capital letters or a word’s position could affect the meaning of a poem. In plays, they will learn how the script and the staging can be a tool for how playwrights develop their character. They will grow their vocabulary and understand the meaning of complicated words and phrases. They may also learn more about subjective vs. objective viewpoints: Objective views are based on facts found in textbooks, encyclopedias, and other trusted sources. Subjective views will rely on people’s personal opinions, beliefs, and how they interpret a scenario. Students will also learn more about different viewpoints and changes in the author’s writing style.

Reading Goals:

  •  Give a summary of the text- its themes and central ideas

  • Analyze how elements of a story interact

  • Determine the meaning of words and phrases

  • Figure out how a drama’s or poem’s form adds to its meaning

  • Look at how authors grow and change the point of view of different characters

Action Items

Action Steps for 7th Grade Parents:

  • Make sure your child has a designated time and a clear workspace to do their homework. Even though high grades are not the only focus, let them know that doing their homework is of high priority. It is a part of character building and can help develop skills such as time management and responsibility that will help in the long run.

  • If your child has problems focusing, address it. Maybe it’s time to get a study group together or a tutor to help out with homework. The important thing is to realize that your child is struggling and find out what kind of help is available.

  • Students may lose interest in math as they go through middle school and high school. Try to see if your school has math clubs that can help make learning math fun but also be a way for them to increase their social circle. If they don’t, this might be a chance for you to talk to the school admin to start one.
